Old or degraded 18650 lithium-ion batteries don't always need to be thrown away. With the right smart charger, you can test their actual capacity, identify weak cells, and even revive some that appear dead. The LiitoKala Lii-600 is one of the best tools for this job, and it's available in Pakistan at Embeded Studio.
Why Test Your 18650 Batteries?
Over time, lithium-ion cells lose capacity. A battery rated at 3000mAh may only deliver 1500mAh after heavy use. In Pakistan, counterfeit or low-quality 18650 cells are also common — testing lets you know exactly what you have before using them in critical applications like solar storage or DIY power banks.
About the LiitoKala Lii-600
- 4-bay smart charger with large LCD display
- Supports 18650, 26650, 21700, 20700, 18350, AA, AAA and more
- Charging current up to 2000mA per slot
- Battery capacity testing (mAh measurement)
- Internal resistance measurement
- Discharge and refresh function
How to Test Battery Capacity
- Insert the battery into any slot on the Lii-600
- Press the slot button to cycle to TEST mode
- The charger will fully charge the battery, then discharge it while measuring the actual mAh delivered
- It will then recharge the battery to full
- The LCD will display the measured capacity — compare this to the rated capacity to assess battery health
How to Check Internal Resistance
Internal resistance (IR) is a key indicator of battery health. A fresh 18650 cell typically has an IR of 50–150mΩ. Higher values indicate aging or damage. On the Lii-600, IR is displayed automatically when a battery is inserted.
- Under 150mΩ: Good condition
- 150–300mΩ: Aging, still usable for low-drain applications
- Over 300mΩ: Poor condition, consider replacing
How to Revive Old Batteries
The Lii-600's discharge/refresh mode can help recover some capacity in lightly degraded NiMH batteries and condition Li-ion cells. For deeply discharged Li-ion cells (below 2.5V), the charger applies a gentle trickle charge to safely bring them back to a chargeable voltage before switching to normal charging.
Safety Tips
- Never charge damaged, swollen, or leaking batteries
- Always charge in a fireproof container or on a non-flammable surface
- Do not leave batteries charging unattended for extended periods
- Dispose of batteries with IR over 500mΩ safely
